This can be a difficult question to answer, as it depends on exactly what you mean. Here are a few of the oldest fizzy drinks in the world listed by date.
1783 – Johann Schweppe founded the Schweppes Company in Geneva, producing drinks based on carbonated water. in 1831 the company started producing lemonade in the UK which quickly became popular and in the 1870s Schweppes started producing it’s famous Tonic Water.
1866 – Vernors Ginger Ale and Hires Root Beer (both now owned by the same company that makes Dr Pepper) were first produced in 1866.
1876 (1884) – In 1876, in the USA, Moxie was invented by Dr. Augustin Thompson as a medicine. But it wasnt until 1884 that the drink became commercially available.
1878 – FioaraVanti is a strawberry flavoured soft drink from Ecuador in South America that was first commercially available in 1878. The drink is now owned by The Coca Cola Company.
1885 – Dr Pepper. Well known throughout the world, Dr Pepper is probably the oldest “famous” drink and was first made available in 1885.
1886 – The biggest brand in the world, Coca Cola, made its debut in 1886, one year after Dr Pepper.
1898 – And the list wouldnt be complete without finding out when Coca Colas main rival Pepsi was first produced. 1898 being the answer.
